The weather wasn't so good on Sunday, with accumulating sleet/snow and
moderately high winds. Obviously, the NSTAR balloon launch had to be
cancelled. Attendance at the Museum was steady, but thin due to the
weather. However, we were able to set up the booth in Hangar B,
including APRS, SSTV, and HF stations, and interact with about 30-40
Museum visitors. We were able to make a direct pitch, and provide
literature, to at least several seriously interested individuals. Linda
Newman and Barb Westcott also wandered around the Museum taking SSTV
pictures and transmitting them back to the booth. This provided an
additional draw back to our exhibit, as Hangar A and the lobby were a
little busier than our location, which was behind the replica of the
Spirit of St. Louis, next to the KC-97. Museum officials also set up
signs and distributed handouts to help direct visitors to various events
and exhibits, including our own.
Overall, a reasonably successful effort, an incremental improvement over
past Museum amateur radio operations, and one that would be worthwhile
to repeat in the future, especially if the weather is more cooperative.
