I hope this is an appropriate question for this group...
I'm familiar with the history of the SAC/Offutt AFB HF radio annexes
near Elkhorn (transmit/control) and
Hooper/Scribner State Airfield (receive, and 1950s era emergency
relocation site), but I've recently become aware that
SAC/Offutt had another HF GLOBECOM setup in Mead during the 1960s (when
as far as I know, the Elkhorn/Scribner
sites were in operation).
Some photos and info on years the sites were in operation can be
viewed on mt friend Scott's web page at:
http://www.airforcebase.net/trips/solo/solo.html
Apparently the layout was one transmit site and two receive sites, all
pretty close together. I'm wondering why these
sites were operational for such a short period of time, and why they
apparently operated concurrently with the
Elkhorn/Scribner sites, etc.
