As we now have sufficient volunteers to minimally man this event, I can
now contact the SAC Museum and let them know we will be there.
The dates and times are Saturday and Sunday, September 16th and 17th, 9
AM to 5 PM, at the SAC Museum in Ashland Nebraska (either exit 426 on
I-80, or take US 6 to Ashland and follow the signs to the SAC Museum).
Talk-in will be on 147.48 simplex. Our station callsign will be K0GRL
(in honor of former CINCSAC General Curtis E. LeMay) and our exchange
will be AF53 (for our bona-fide member Sid Reade, W0WWH). We can give
out 100 bonus points to each station (on HF only) because we are
operating from a museum, but we will not be giving out the 300 point
"AIR" callsign bonus because we are instead honoring General LeMay this
year (and we will have only one station on the air).
Our confirmed volunteers are:
K3FU
NS0N (formerly KC0ASN)
KA0AIR (formerly KC0AUL)
N0TJQ
KC0BDX
Other volunteers who will likely show up (barring any schedule
conflicts) are:
AA0ZP
KE6DZD
KC0HYF
These individuals will be added to an access roster given to the front
desk at the SAC Museum. Other last-minute volunteers will have to be
"vouched" in by someone on the roster. Send me E-mail by Friday
evening, or call us on the "talk-in" frequency on Saturday or Sunday if
you wish to come and volunteer at the last minute.
One thing that we will not be able to do this year is a Friday afternoon
setup (as no one else was available). Instead, we will arrive Saturday
morning at 9 AM to set up the tables and the HF antennas. We should
probably be able to get on the air by noon on Saturday at the latest.
With a reasonable amount of on-air time Saturday afternoon and all day
Sunday, we should have no trouble placing first in Nebraska.
I will arrange to pick up promised items from N4OWG and KB0ZZT.
However, we still need many items that were given in my last E-mail
message, especially coaxial cable and a VHF/HF mobile radio. Please
contact me if you can bring these items. I would also like to emphasize
that, although we have minimal manning, we could easily make use of
additional volunteers, even if they can only come down for an hour or
so. If you don't wish to operate, you can log, or greet visitors, or
even help with setup and teardown. Our participation this year (i.e.,
if it is a good and enjoyable team effort, rather than a small number
of volunteers getting overworked and burned out) will weigh heavily on
our decision to do it again next year.
Any questions or comments may be directed to me via E-mail at my address
below.
