Paul, just to clarify, the 300 word candidate statements are NOT published
in QST; they come along with the ballot (which arrived in Colby today, by
the way)

Please indulge a little minor editorializing. From WR0R's email to Paul:

All of the radio services in the FCC rules are just that -- services. They
could just as well have been called departments or some other word, in
which case the search of Part 97 would show "service" (probably preceded by
"public") much less than 152 times. But still undoubtedly a notable
number. My point is, amateur radio is clearly a hobby, ONE of the important
purposes of which is public service. However I don't plan on flogging
myself or anyone else for ragchewing (or whatever) at the expense of
performing public service -- although providing public service comms is a
wonderful and rewarding thing.
