AF QSO Party Plans Underway, Volunteer Operators Needed

I've been hesitant to make a formal announcement because the venues we
had planned for our operation are still pending approval. Clay Mayrose,
WA6LBU, has tentative approval to operate K0GRL at the Elkhorn station,
but needs to obtain formal approval (and possibly re-approval, as there
was a recent change-of-command). Robb Hoover and I are going to meet
with SAC Museum officials this week to get formal approval to operate at
the Museum. We had informal contact in May with an official at the
museum who reacted favorably to the idea. Unfortunately, he's no longer
at the SAC Museum and we need to start again "cold" with different
officials to get permission with less than two month's advanced notice.
Our backup for the K0AIR operation is at the home of Fred Groce, K0FG,
in Council Bluffs. Fred is a SACMARC member, avid contester, and
President of the Southwest Iowa Amateur Radio Club (SWIARC).

However, since it's almost certain that we'll be having some operation
somewhere, and likely two operations, I'm going to put out the call for
volunteer operators. Individuals with General class licenses and up,
and with HF experience, would be most welcome, but any interested
amateur would be valuable to our operation. This would be an excellent
opportunity to gain HF operation experience for those otherwise limited
by operator license class, or access to equipment and space for
antennas.

If you think you will be more interested in an operation at the SAC
Museum (or Fred Groce's place as a backup), contact me either at
pschleck@novia.net, or 291-6176. If you would be more interested in
operating at the Elkhorn station, contact Clay Mayrose, WA6LBU, at
WA6LBU@aol.com or 292-9680. You are of course, free to operate at both
stations, as several people (including me) did last year.

73, Paul, K3FU
